After a long day of house hunting, our client almost kept going when she pulled up to this brick colonial, but she said to herself, “Don’t judge a book by its cover.” And we’re glad she didn’t. Once inside, the home’s proportions, quirks and character won her over.
Typical of 1940s colonial architecture, the house’s layout was determined by its symmetry, which meant it lacked functional, open space for contemporary living. Our team of architects and interior designers incorporated a 2-story addition with a family room below and a primary suite above, both with views of the garden. We lowered the basement slab underneath the addition and added window wells, creating a new light-filled area with 8’ ceilings perfect for workouts and recreation.
